Y
ou're right John, it was just a slow upload.  Thanks for letting me know.

If I had appropriate pictures I would gladly share them.  All I have are personal photos which wouldn't be of much interest to anyone else, just kids stuff and high school antics.  If I run across anything I'll scan it in and send it to you.

Mickey Hogsed let me know about the site.  He created an e-mail list of graduates a year or two ago.  If you'd like to get on the list his e-mail is     mahogsed@tva.gov
Everyone who graduated from Bridgeport High is welcome.  I'm not sure about the younger folk who went to the "new" school. :)

Keep up the good work on the web site.  I'll be checking it from time to time to see what's happening.

By the way, the historical section jumped straight from boom times to the bust before the turn of the last century without explaining what happened.  What happened to the deep-pocketed investors?

Cheers,
Tina Austin Verespey

The History page was written by Dennis Lambert. Perhaps he can look at it and make the necessary changes, The complete website, including Dennis Lamberts page was written in haste, trying to hurry and get the website up and running.

Subject: Your New Website

Congratulations!

Someone has done a mighty fine job with this website, with obviously a lot of writing, research, collecting and scanning.  As for the website, I like all of it, except some of the sections are so large (such as the History page), that it takes forever to download on a dial-up modem like we have. The pictures are superb and the text is for the most part well written. The site navigates quite well. We know how hard this is to do, as we have built several sites over the years.

The best part for me is that I have visited your fair town on several occasions over the last 30 years. It was nice to visit again via the internet and witness your re-birth and growth. It is incredible that your town has survived so many terrible disasters, which I had only heard about.

I am a Railroad historian, particularly interested in the NC&StL and have included Bridgeport in several of my research field trips. In fact, I have ridden behind a steam locomotive through there in 1971----both ways! I have visited up and down the Sequatchie Branch as well, and even stayed the night at a motel "up the holler". Somewhere, I have a picture of that place. This is beautiful country. The bridges and N&C depot were my focus and I have many slides taken in that area. Unfortunately, my slides have not all been scanned...there are maybe 5,000 of them!  Perhaps If I ever have the time to go thru them, there are some that may be useful to you.

As part of my interest in the NC&StL, we have recently formed a historical society dedicated to the NC&StL (with the assistance of my wife, Maryann and several other people from around the country). It is called the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway Preservation Society, Inc. (NCPS). Maryann is working on our own website www.ncps-576.org and has much of it done, yet much left to do. Our goal is to cover every town served by the NC&StL -- and you will notice we are lacking pictures and history of Bridgeport as well as many other towns. Is it possible that you have extra photos that are not on your site, would there be any railroad oriented ones we could use on or site? We always give credit for photos when that information is available. I am especially interested in a picture of the Depot and both bridges there. We would dedicate at least one page to Bridgeport, and that could be large or small.

In addition, we would like to include a link to your site on ours, so that anyone wishing to reference the town in depth may do so that way. Would this be agreeable?

Thank you very much,

Tom Knowles

Dear Tom, I am posting your letter on our website, and forming a new page this morning for "letters". We will be happy to put a link to your web page, and you are welcome to use any of our pictures. I will be happy to send you any pictures I have. Please keep in touch, you have my e-mail address. Thanks for the compliment. John Lewis, Mayor

Thanks so much for all your hard work on the website.  Having grown up in Bridgeport but visiting seldom since 1979 it was a rare treat to see some familiar and some long gone points of interest.  The historical section is amazing.  How did I get through school and know so little about the area?

Unfortunately, many of the photos at the end of the historic section did not come up.  Just wanted to let you know and see if you could take a look at it.  I'd love to see them all so it would be great if you let me know when they are up again.

Thanks again,
Tina Austin Verespey

It is such a large site, it takes time for the historic site to come up, unless you are on cable or have DSL. Just a simple phone connection takes a long time. How did you learn of the website? Do you have any old pictures you would be interested in loaning us to scan for the site? We would welcome any old photo's you might have.

We are still working on the site, and with the enormous amount of history of the area, we will probably be working on it all the time. I am very happy you like the website. Thanks for the e-mail.... John Lewis
