THE NATURAL GAS EXPLOSION

These are pictures of the Natural Gas Explosion which occurred in January 1999. The Pictures are Courtesy of Jim Sebring of Bridgeport. There were several injuries and deaths. The mess was cleaned up, and just ten months later, November of 2000 the remains of the explosion was set fire by an arsonist, and most of the area from Loyds Store to the old Hardware building burned. The downtown area has had many problems over the past years, and now concentration is on moving to the new four lane highway, U.S. Highway 72 which bypasses the downtown area.
